Rays
Born from evening walks along San Francisco’s waterfront, Rays began when Katerina Huezo noticed how neon beams illuminated the Ferry Building and sails at the bay, drawing out hidden architectural lines. She translated that vision into paintings with sunset-colored backdrops crossed by crisp white rays — light made visible on canvas. Inspired by Art Deco’s stylized caryatids, she introduced feminine silhouettes into the graphic backgrounds, creating a striking triptych. First shown at Burning Man and later in San Francisco 111 Minna Gallery, the series led to a commission for the poetry book M, where Huezo painted the author and his muse for the cover.

The Caryatids Triptych grew out of Katerina Huezo’s “Rays” series, where she combined Art Deco–inspired feminine forms with bold, architectural backgrounds. First shown at Burning Man and later exhibited in San Francisco, the triptych became one of her most recognized works. Its striking silhouettes caught the eye of a visiting poet, who later commissioned Huezo to paint himself and his muse in the same style — a portrait that became the cover of his poetry book M.
Story of M
While exhibiting “Rays” in San Francisco, Katerina Huezo met a visiting poet who fell in love with her stylized caryatids. He commissioned a portrait of himself and his muse in the same style for his upcoming book of poetry. That painting became the cover of M — a collaboration born of art, love, and heartbreak.
