MindShift:

What if you could ask anyone in history for advice?

MindShift is an AI-powered perspective tool that evolves from viral journaling app into a therapist-client context platform.

I built this after watching my therapist struggle to remember the context of our last conversation. She was blown away when I created a mind map of everything we'd discussed. That's when I realized: therapists see 35+ clients a week. They can't possibly hold all that context.

The Therapist Paradox

I've been in therapy for years. My therapist is brilliant, compassionate, and deeply committed to her clients. But she sees 35+ people every week.

When I walk into her office, she remembers my name, maybe a crisis from last month. But the subtle threads — the patterns, the connections, the things I said three months ago that matter now? Those are lost.

So I started making mind maps before each session. Visual maps of everything we'd discussed, color-coded by theme, with timelines and connections I'd noticed. When I showed her, she said: "This is incredible. I wish all my clients did this."

That's when it hit me: Therapists have an impossible job. Therapy works when there's continuity, when insights from session 3 inform the breakthrough in session 12. But human memory can't scale to 35 clients, each with years of context.

The tools don't exist. Electronic health records store symptoms and diagnoses, not narrative. Therapists take notes, but notes are linear.

Context is spatial.

Why this works:

It's a Trojan horse. People come for the AI parlor trick. They stay because reflection is valuable. And once they're hooked on documenting their thoughts, they're ready for the next step.

Phase Charlie:

The Therapist Platform

What I Built

A Three-Stage Funnel

I'm a product designer. I know that solving a therapist's workflow problem doesn't start with selling to therapists. It starts with proving the mechanic works.

Phase Alpha:

The Viral Hook

A mobile-first journaling app where you ask a question and get perspective from historical figures. "What would Dolly Parton say about my career change?" "How would Socrates think about this relationship?"

It's playful. It's shareable. It's a novelty — until you realize the perspectives actually help. And then you're journaling daily, building a library of insights.

Phase Beta:

The Utility Layer
Collaborative mind mapping.

Beta.1:

Lightweight planning maps. Trip planning, project brainstorming, event coordination. 2-3 people, 2-3 categories, real-time collaboration.

Beta.2:

Deep life vision maps. 7 categories (career, health, relationships, financial, growth, creative, lifestyle). 5-year timelines. Weekly check-ins. Accountability partners.

Why this works: People don't wake up wanting to make mind maps. They wake up overwhelmed. Beta gives them a framework to organize chaos. And once they've mapped their life, they see the value of sharing that map with someone who can help them navigate it.

The client creates their mind map between sessions. The therapist sees it before the session starts. They walk in prepared. The first 15 minutes aren't spent reconstructing history. They're spent going deeper.

The client updates the map in real-time during the session. New insights get added immediately. Connections get drawn. When they leave, they have a living document of their progress.

Why this works: It solves the therapist's context problem without adding admin burden. The client does the work. The therapist just shows up better prepared.

The Market Opportunity

This isn't just a therapy tool. It's three products:

  1. Journal app ($34.99/year average, market leaders: Day One, Reflectly)

  2. Mind mapping tool ($6-12/month, market leaders: MindMeister, Miro)

  3. Therapy tech ($100-200/session, market: Headspace, Talkspace, BetterHelp)

I'm pricing aggressively below market:

  • Alpha: $1.99/month (vs. $5-7 industry standard)

  • Beta: $4.99/month (vs. $6-12 for mind mapping)

  • Phase C: $9.99/month therapist subscription + $4.99/month client access

The mobile subscription market is $1.26 trillion.

I don't need to capture much of it.

But more importantly: I'm solving a problem I've lived. I know the pain point. I've validated it with therapists. I've built the Alpha in 6 weeks. I'm 17 chapters into designing the Beta spec.

This isn't speculative. It's real.
